Going on holiday with a square peg…Take Two 🤦🏻‍♀️

Oops! OK, so I’m still trying to get the hang of blogging….I somehow managed to delete the previous post about our holiday experiences with our little square peg 🤦🏻‍♀️ so here we go again….

Either bravely or stupidly we have booked an All Inclusive holiday to Majorca in the summer…sounds lovely I hear you say…well yes, hopefully…BUT….will Edward kick off on the plane? Will he run off at the airport or by the pool? What on earth is he going to eat when his diet consists of Weetabix and water? I’ll try not to freak out about it and take it as it comes….

Three years ago we did go on holiday to Italy but we were with the in laws so we had extra pairs of hands….but can we do it on our own?

Not wanting to brag but I have actually taken both boys camping twice now on my own…(well ok, with a friend and her kids but still.) and it was exhausting but awesome at the same time. I can totally recommend Harlyn Sands in Cornwall, they were really helpful to us. They put us on pitches near the facilities, gave me the key to the disabled toilet so that I could change Edward’s nappies and gave me a wristband to put on Edward in case he ran off. The beach at Harlyn Sands is a 5-10 minute walk from the campsite and it is absolutely stunning. The main beach is huge with an enormous stretch of white sand and crystal clear sea. Then there is a little cove and this is where we went. I was able to relax here as Edward was contained and couldn’t run off for miles and miles.

One type of holiday that I wouldn’t recommend is a canal boat holiday….Lots of people imagine it to be quiet and relaxing….but I can honestly say absolutely not! We decided to navigate the Warwickshire Ring that has 122 locks!! At all times, I was petrified that Edward would fall in the canal as he has no sense of danger. Somehow we all survived and made it back home in one piece. Not in any rush to do that again…

Although holidays with a square peg can be challenging and exhausting, I won’t shy away from holiday adventures with him. It does him the world of good to experience these different things and he loves it! I just have to be as fully prepared as possible and ready to face whatever challenge each day brings.
