A pizza party for the Square Peg!
You’re probably aware that the Square Peg has a very restricted diet. Typically, he might eat some Coco Pops, some yoghurts, Fruit pouches and Milky Ways. Last week, we decided to have pizza whilst we watched England in the Euro’s. I called it a pizza party, Edward got really excited so I asked him if he wanted some pizza in our pizza party and he said ‘Yes!’

So then I got really excited too at the prospect of Edward trying a different food. So with some Malteser bribery, he actually did eat some.
Right then! I thought, lets try and take this to the next level and get him to make a pizza himself. We have been advised by the paediatrician to give him opportunities to play with foods and I regularly let him do this when I’m cooking and he loves it.
We kept the pizza making simple. I bought a ready made pizza base, ready made sauce and grated Mozzarella cheese.

Edward was very excited as usual and wanted us both to put aprons on. He was good at putting the sauce on and loved grabbing a huge handful of cheese and dumping it on the pizza! We set the timer on the oven and I let him press the button when the timer finished. He was happy to use the pizza cutter to slice it. We put it on a plate and took it into the dining room……Edward put a piece on a fork, touched it, sniffed it….then ran off…..

So this time, it didn’t work, but I’m going to persevere with the pizza making because one day he might eat it. Next time I might even get him to help make some pizza dough.
Have you had any experience of restricted food intake? Have you tried pizza making? Let me know your experiences.
