The โ€˜Dietโ€™ of a Square Peg

‘Food Glorious Food!!! ๐Ÿœ๐Ÿ๐Ÿฅ˜๐Ÿ—๐ŸŒญ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿซ๐Ÿฉ๐Ÿจ As a family we all absolutely LOVE food, talk about it all the time, try new foods, try new recipes etc etc…….but not Edward, oh no, his diet consists of Weetabix, Porridge, yoghurts (but only the same ones) jacket potato and beans (but only at school), biscuits, cakes, fruit pouches and chocolate. On Christmas Day when we were all tucking in to my amazing roast dinner (I know I’m boasting but it really was good!) he was tucking into a bowl of soggy Weetabix….we put some Christmas dinner on a plate for him and he pushed it away and shouted ‘NO! I don’t like it!’ ๐Ÿ˜ค

On the very very rare occasions when he decides that he might actually try a new food (like a an apple) he urges and then he is sick. Now, Edward does like chocolate buttons but when he accidentally tried a caramel chocolate button instead of a milk chocolate one, he was so repulsed that he was sick over the sofa. ๐Ÿ˜ซ

We even took him Strawberry picking in the summer….he must be the only child in the world who will not eat them whilst he is picking them or indeed ever…..who even does that?!! ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

I just don’t know if he will ever eat a normal balanced diet. We have been to the dietitian, they said to make sure he is around food and has the opportunity to try different foods if he wants. He always wants to help me when I’m cooking so I let him put the food into the pans but he still has no interest in wanting to try any of it.

What do I do now? Do I just not worry about him? He is, after all, healthy and is rarely ill. I’m stumped with this one!! Please send help!

  • Ugh, I know how this feels. My 3.5 year old is awful when it comes to food. He’s never been great but the list of things to give him for dinner is down to about four now – mostly beige, I might add. I’m putting all my hopes in him starting school this September and having to have school dinners. If that doesn’t work eventually I have no clue! Nice to know I’m not alone though! Thanks for joining the #ItsOK linky – welcome to the fold! Hopefully see you again next week. x

  • Me, Them and the Others

I feel your pain, my daughters diet is hugely restricted, she ate a chocolate spread sandwich on Christmas Day. I am at least grateful she isnโ€™t sick when she doesnโ€™t like it (although I have had the odd thing so at into my hand!) #itsok

My little girl has always been a good eater and willing to try new food. I know how lucky I am and definitely don’t take it for granted as they can change so easily! #dreamteam

  • Sounds like you’re doing everything you can, hopefully he’ll start eating more variety as he gets older. #DreamTeam
