The Square Peg reviews….Eddie’s Colourful Feelings.
#AD #gifted *Disclaimer* We were kindly gifted Eddie’s colourful feelings by Nikki Saunders to review.
Eddie’s colourful feelings is another book in “The Eddie Series” written by Nikki Saunders. We have already reviewed My Awesome Autism, also in this series. Check out our review of My Awesome Autism by clicking here.

Some autistic children struggle to understand their emotions and have difficulty controlling them. In this book, Eddie uses his imaginary rainbow to match a colour to each of his feelings and then learn strategies for each colour of the rainbow. This can help autistic children to process the emotions that they are feeling and learn how to self regulate. For example, if they are are feeling sad, the book tells them that they can read a book, do some colouring, talk to a grown up or have a hug etc.
Again, Edward was very excited that the book was sent to him so he very much enjoyed sitting with me and listening to the story. He loves colours and he really does love rainbows so by getting him to associate his emotions and strategies with colours will help us to discuss emotions with him.
The last few pages of the book contain helpful advice for parents and carers, including conversation starters to initiate talk about emotions. As as parent, when you recognise that your child is struggling then you could try drawing their attention back to this book and encourage them to use one of the strategies.

I think that these books are amazing for not only helping children to understand their autism but to also raise awareness in other children who don’t have an understanding of autism. By raising awareness in this way, society will be a more inclusive and accepting place where people on the autism spectrum can thrive.

I have also reviewed my awesome autism, it’s great, isn’t it? #parentpower@_karendennis
