Mummy of a Square Peg – Update
Hello to all of our lovely followers,
I am aware that I havent written a blog post about Edward since October 2021. So I thought I would update you as to what’s been going on.
Mummy
Firstly, Mummy has been super busy. I work as a full time secondary RS teacher and the COVID pandemic has really taken a toll on all teachers, so when I get home each evening, I have no brain energy left to write a post. At the weekends, I am trying to recover enough to start all over again the following week.
However, I have also been applying for new jobs. Since Edward started in a special school, it has been my passion to teach autistic children and those with additional needs. So, the amazing news is that I have now secured a new job in a Pupil Referral Unit as a PSHE, cooking, careers and D of E teacher. I cannot wait to help these kids who have been let down by the education system and faced significant trauma.

Now we have reached February half term, I am planning to get a bit of blog planning done.
Edward
Edward has continued to be the same, full of life and energy. He is 8 years old, he still has an extremely limited diet, not toilet trained and obsessed with the Teletubbies.
At the weekends, Edward has been happy to entertain himself. He likes chilling on the sofa (fortunately for Mummy) watching films and ’NooTube’ (as Edward calls it).
The challenge comes when I want to get him dressed or eat anything. Every morning, I have to chase him round the house and wrestle him to get him changed.
Food
Edward’s diet consists of Coco Pops, white bread and butter sandwiches, Quavers (but not supermarket own brand) Tesco Cosmic Whips (but not branded Milky Ways), Orange Clubs, Caramel Pots of Joy (but not any other flavour), Wildlife yoghurts and Tesco baby fruit pouches. He will also only drink water.
Significant progress though in the fact that he now eats McDonalds fries and prawn crackers.

Edward loves to help me do cooking and his school are doing interventions around this too. He handles food and will smell it but completely refuses to eat it. But we will keep persevering.

Sleep
I am eternally grateful that Edward goes to bed with relatively little fuss (apart from chasing him round the house and wrestling him into his pyjamas every night). He will actually do a kiss goodnight which melts my heart.

He goes to bed with a weighted blanket, a duvet, four fleece blankets and four Teletubbies. We put a lava lamp on for him, kiss goodnight and close the door. He then doesn’t get out of be until around 5am. Whether he actually sleeps all night, I don’t know. When we’ve been in to check on him around midnight sometimes, he is just lying there awake. We can actually talk to him, he is calm and is happy to stay there and go back to sleep. Edward might wake up ridiculously early in the mornings, but I’ll accept a full night undisturbed.
So that’s just a quick update to explain my hiatus. Hopefully, I will be back on the regular blog posting.

See you soon
