We had an absolutely wonderful Easter holiday. We stayed for a week in Burnbake Forest Lodges and the weather was beautiful.

We arrived on Bank holiday Monday. Our first impressions were that it’s a lovely tranquil site. We see the camping ground first and they are lovely flat pitches. There is a small campsite shop and an outdoor bar serving burgers and pizzas.

Check in time was between 5-7pm. However, if you arrive after that time, the keys would be in your lodge.

We were in lodge 11 called Randalls. It slept 6 people and so it was lovely and spacious. One thing that we’d never had before in a lodge was a Hot Tub and it was so much fun!

Day 1 – Old Harry Rocks

Andy and Matt went on a bike ride together and arranged to meet Edward and I out at Old Harry Rocks. We parked at South Beach car park which is National Trust, as we are members that meant it was free.

There is about a mile walk from the car park out to Old Harry Rocks. The boys arrived and then we all walked back to the car together, obviously stopping at the pub with a beautiful beer garden.

Day 2 – Bovington Tank Museum

One of the main reasons we chose to stay in this area was so that we could visit the Tank Museum beacuase Edward loves tanks. He loved looking at the tanks and ammunition.

The main thing that surprised me about Edward on this day was that he was super happy to dress up in the clothing at the museum.

Day 3 – Corfe Castle

A beautiful day to visit Corfe Castle. It’s another National Trust property so free entry for member. You will need to arrive by 10am as the car park gets full very quickly.

There are lovely views from the castle. Edward was particularly excited to watch a steam train. However, it is difficult to make a whole day out from it. Once you’ve walked around the ruins and back down, that’s pretty much it.

Day 4 – Brownsea Island

Well who would want to miss a chance to go and see some Red Squirrels? Not us, that’s for sure. So we excitedly caught the ferry from Poole Harbour over to Brownsea (not cheap I hasten to add).

We alighted at the Island and set off on the intrepid expedition to spot some Red squirrels. We honestly walked everywhere on the island….did we spot some Red squirrels….??? (Did we ***k!)

Day 5 – Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door

I had visited these places before when I completed the Jurassic Mighty Hike in 2019. I had always wanted to go back.

Andy and Matthew cycled from the campsite to Lulworth Cove and Edward and I drove out in the van to meet them.

Edward and I parked at Lulworth Cove (the parking ticket is also valid at Durdle Door car park). Andy and Matthew had just arrived at the same time as us, so we had a little walk around the cove.

At Durdle Door, we parked and then walked down a steep hill to the beach. On the way back up I have to push Edward up the hill. Honestly, these are two stunning areas that you have to visit.
