The Square Peg went to Wembley!
Daddy of a Square Peg has been a lifelong supporter of Port Vale FC. If you don’t know where Port Vale is, it’s in the city of Stoke -on-Trent (the only football club that is not named after the place in which it is in!) The ground is called Vale Park (aka The Burslem Bog)
Well, they only went and reached the League 2 play off final at Wembley!!
We decided that we should try and go, even though that meant driving for nearly 4 hours each way (Devon to Wembley). I believe that the last time Port Vale went to Wembley was in 1993 so as it’s not a regular occurrence, we thought we should go.
I knew that Edward would love it, even though it would be very noisy and busy (this doesn’t really bother him). I knew he would be excited and he loves a big day out with the family.
Parking at Wembley
We booked parking at Wembley, which was great as it was a two minute walk from the stadium. By driving up, this meant that we could take whatever we needed in the van without having to carry a big bag with food and Edward’s stuff in it. It meant that we could change him in the van. It also meant that we didn’t have to catch trains and drag everyone across London. After the match, Edward was so pleased to be able to get back in the van and snuggle up under his blankets. So although it was a long day driving, it was great.
The Stadium
Once we had parked, we could hear the fans singing and the atmosphere was already brilliant. We went for a walk around the stadium and on to Olympic Way to take a picture.
As soon as Edward walked into the stadium he said ’wow!’
The Match
The noise in the stadium was very loud but the atmosphere was amazing. The noise level didn’t phase Edward. He was excited to be there, he joined in the singing and chants and loved watching people with their flags and scarves.
Fortunately Port Vale won 3-0, so we had plenty of opportunity to jump up and cheer!
Jumped into the van, drove home. Arrived back at midnight. Completely wiped out on Sunday but we were all glad that we went. Would definitely take Edward to another big event like this.
